August 2020

Dear friends

I hope this finds you all well. The last number of months have been very difficult and now with a sense of anticipation, we are looking forward to meeting together again in the public worship of the Lord. I trust we can echo the words of Psalm 122 v. 1, I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD”.

Following the relaxation on restrictions for church services, a subgroup of Kirk Session has been making plans for our return to worshipping in the meeting house. God willing, our start date for resumption is Sunday 6 September at 11am and 6.30pm. As things will obviously be different in services for the next while, we want to give you as much information as possible, to alleviate any fears some might have about coming together again.

At all times, please do observe the 2-metre social distancing rule and heed the directions of the stewards. They will show you to a seat and be aware that it may be impossible to be seated in the seat you normally sit in, starting from the front to the back due to the necessary spacing. Following further recent consultations with public health authorities, the Presbyterian Church joins with Christian church leaders all over this island, formally recommending and encouraging the use of face coverings at all services of worship (unless you can’t for medical reasons).  Please do bring your own mask, however if you forget, some will be available in the vestibule. Hand sanitizer will also be available as you enter the building.

Do remain seated after the service and wait for directions about how to vacate the meeting house and then leave, observing social distancing rules. As we cannot collect the Free Will Offering, plates will be in evidence to allow you to give to God’s work.

At the moment, no separate children’s or youth ministry will be taking place during the service and no crèche facilities will be available but all ages are always welcome at all services. Bearing this in mind, the services will be slightly shorter than usual. No coffee or tea will be served at the close of services.

The church office will be open again. For the safety of both those who work there and those who visit, if you could kindly limit your visits to the office to all but essential calls for the next little while. Please don’t hesitate to ring the office, if you need anything.

We are planning to livestream the services so that those who for health reasons can’t attend public worship, can still enjoy the blessing. Some of the technical equipment we need to do this, is proving slow to source but we are endeavouring to have this in place, as soon as we possibly can.

Finally, please don’t attend if you have Covid 19 symptoms, are self-isolating, or feel uncomfortable about meeting in a closed environment. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Sunday 6 September.

God bless you all
